The Grand Mosque relies on a robust electrical system, consuming over 100 megavolt-amperes (MVA) daily to power its extensive network. This system supports essential services such as lighting, air conditioning, sound systems, and elevators, ensuring a serene and spiritually enriching experience for visitors.
According to the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, the mosque’s power supply is sourced from multiple channels, including four main stations, 13 substations, six medium-voltage feeders, 40 voltage transformers, and eight backup generators with a total capacity of 32 MVA.
To uphold reliability, the authority has developed 74 emergency scenarios, guaranteeing the seamless operation of electrical networks and ensuring visitors’ comfort and tranquility. Additionally, the Grand Mosque benefits from 11 main and backup power sources, maintaining an uninterrupted power supply for 40 years.
