Saudi Arabian construction and consulting firms signed contracts with the Government of Saint Lucia to complete the reconstruction of St. Jude Hospital in Augier, Vieux-Fort, Saint Lucia, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
Funded by the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), the reconstruction of St. Jude Hospital will involve 100 medical beds, maternity wards, an emergency department, surgical operating rooms, and other health services and clinics.
Through a concessional loan of $75 million from SFD, the new project will have a great significant. It will serve 50 thousand beneficiaries annually notably after the hospital’s collapse due to a fire dating back to 2009.
Saint Lucia Prime Minister Philip Joseph Pierre has expressed sincere appreciation to the Kingdom and SFD for their unwavering support to fulfill this joint development project.
In the same context, SFD Chief Executive, Sultan bin Abdulrahman Al-Marshad, emphasized SFD’s commitment to boosting sustainable social and economic development in developing countries and small island states.
Al-Marshad also stressed that the hospital reconstruction and rehabilitation project will empower local communities and foster the health sector’s capabilities.
Thus, they will meet the needs of residents in the capital and surrounding areas and enhance economic and social growth in Saint Lucia.
