The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) stated that Saudi National Biotechnology Strategy positions the Kingdom as a global pioneer in biomanufacturing and medical innovation, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
Saudi National Biotechnology Strategy
SFDA’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr Hisham bin Saad Al-Jadhey, has commended the strategy for its central focus on critical areas such as vaccines, biolocalization, genomics, and plant improvement.
During his speech on the 4th annual international conference of the Saudi Society of Clinical Pharmacy (SSCP), Al-Jadhey reviewed SFDA’s continuous efforts to fully achieve the national strategy, as follows:
- Establishing a strong framework of regulations and guidelines for biotechnology
- Signing clinical trial protocols for biopharmaceuticals
- Promoting Manufacturing standards for bioproducts
- Fostering Clinical evaluation and assessment of bioproducts
- Supporting research, development and manufacturing of bioproducts
- Providing post-market safety monitoring of bioproducts
Strategic Steps
The Chief Executive Officer also stressed that SFDA has proactively adjusted its organizational structure to adapt and align with the national strategy.
Consequently, the Authority established specialized departments within several sectors such as food, medicine, medical devices, and laboratories.
Promising Future
Al-Jadhey called on stakeholders to play a key role in shaping the future of technology and biotechnology regulation, emphasizing that collaborative efforts will further boost the development of new biotechnologies.
He noted that joint and integrated work will meet public health needs within the Kingdom through the establishment of a thriving biotechnology system.
The system will strengthen innovation, capture global investment opportunities, and secure a global pioneering position for the Kingdom in the field of biotechnology.
