The second edition of the Space Debris Conference will begin tomorrow, Monday, in Riyadh. Organized by the Saudi Space Agency, the two-day event will convene experts, decision-makers, and industry leaders from 75 countries, representing governments, international organizations, and specialized companies across the global space sector.
Space Debris Conference
The conference reflects Saudi Arabia’s commitment to unifying international efforts to address the escalating challenge of space debris and to promote the sustainable use of outer space as a shared resource for humanity. It focuses on safeguarding space operations and orbital infrastructure while supporting the continued growth of the global space economy.
International Cooperation
Held with the support of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and in partnership with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the conference underscores the importance of international collaboration and effective governance frameworks to mitigate space debris risks and ensure a safe, sustainable space environment.
By hosting the event, Saudi Arabia aims to further position itself as a global hub for space sustainability. The conference also brings together leading specialists to enhance international coordination on space debris issues and highlights the Saudi Space Agency’s role in advancing policies and initiatives that protect the future of the space economy.
The conference seeks to raise global awareness of the risks posed by space debris, review relevant legislation and policies, encourage research and innovation, and develop effective international governance mechanisms to ensure the responsible and sustainable use of orbital environments.
Panels, Keynotes, Innovation
Over two days, participants will engage in panel discussions and keynote sessions covering topics such as space sustainability, protection of the global space economy, strengthening international cooperation, and showcasing innovative technologies, partnerships, and operational solutions to address space debris challenges.
Moreover, one of the conference’s highlights is the “DebriSolver” competition—an international platform designed to foster applied innovation in space debris mitigation. Innovative solutions will be evaluated by leading experts and international judges according to the highest scientific and technical standards, supporting the transition from research concepts to practical, deployable solutions.
Through hosting the conference, Saudi Arabia reaffirms its leadership in advancing international space initiatives, strengthening public-private partnerships, and shaping the future of the global space community. Finally, these efforts align with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, reinforcing the Kingdom’s position as a global hub for space economy development and sustainability.
