Jeddah Astronomy Society: Global Unity Marks Earth Day 2026

On April 22, people around the world commemorate the 56th Earth Day, highlighting a growing and fast-paced rise in environmental awareness.
Majed Abu Zahra, head of the Jeddah Astronomy Society, noted that major cities globally are hosting a range of environmental initiatives centered on practical solutions. He added that more than 50 cities have reported significant progress in waste management and are actively transitioning toward “green city” models. Large-scale tree-planting campaigns have also been introduced in regions impacted by desertification, aiming to restore damaged ecosystems more quickly.

Organizers of Earth Day activities urged individuals everywhere to adopt simple yet effective actions, such as cutting down on unnecessary energy use, supporting locally made sustainable products, and engaging in environmental programs.
