Saudi Official Discusses with Somali President Bilateral Relations

Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Somali President, received today the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Waleed bin Abdulkarim El-Khereiji, on the sidelines of the IGAD summit in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, reported Saudi Press Agency.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the relations between the two countries and ways to enhance and develop them in various fields. Additionally, they discussed issues of mutual interest.

Saudi Aid to Somalia

 

The King Salman Centre signed a joint agreement with the Norwegian Refugee Council to improve the living conditions of drought-affected in the Federal Republic of Somalia.

The agreement was represented by Ahmed bin Ali Al-Baiz, Assistant Supervisor General for Operations and Programs at the Centre, and Mohamed Abdi, the Norwegian Refugee Council’s Country Director for Somalia, at the Centre’s headquarters in Riyadh.

Details of Humanitarian Initiative

Dr. Abdullah bin Saleh Al-Muallim initially detailed the plan to drill 20 artesian wells in Somalia’s Mudug, Nugal, Bari, Sool, and Sanag regions. Each will have electric pumps and solar power systems. Moreover, each well will also have a high-rise tank and accessories.

Additionally, six water stations will be upgraded with solar systems and electric pumps. Consequently, this will benefit 130,000 people. Finally, the total cost of these efforts will be at $3.588 million.

Saudi Arabia’s Efforts in Somalia

This initiative is part of the ongoing efforts by  King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, to improve the living conditions of the affected population in Somalia.
