King Salman Centre Signs Agreement to Aid Drought-Hit Somalia
The King Salman Centre signed a joint agreement with the Norwegian Refugee Council to improve the living conditions of drought-affected in the Federal Republic of Somalia.
The agreement was represented by Ahmed bin Ali Al-Baiz, Assistant Supervisor General for Operations and Programs at the Centre, and Mohamed Abdi, the Norwegian Refugee Council’s Country Director for Somalia, at the Centre’s headquarters in Riyadh.
Details of Humanitarian Initiative
Dr. Abdullah bin Saleh Al-Muallim initially detailed the plan to drill 20 artesian wells, each with electric pumps and solar power systems, in Somalia’s Mudug, Nugal, Bari, Sool, and Sanag regions. Moreover, each well will also have a high-rise tank and accessories.
Additionally, six water stations will be upgraded with solar systems and electric pumps. Consequently, this will benefit 130,000 people. Finally, the total cost of these efforts will be at $3.588 million.
Saudi Arabia’s Efforts in Somalia
This initiative is part of the ongoing efforts by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, to improve the living conditions of the affected population in Somalia.
Other Humanitarian Activities
Winter Relief in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan
Initially, the King Salman Centre distributed 1,083 winter bags in Pakistan’s Ghizer and Astore districts, consequently aiding 7,581 people in cold, flood-hit areas.
Furthermore, this was part of a 2023-2024 project to provide shelter and winter essentials in Pakistan.
Additionally, this initiative reflects the Centre’s ongoing commitment to humanitarian aid.
Saudi Arabia’s Relief Projects in Pakistan
These activities are among the various humanitarian and relief projects offered by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre. These projects aim to assist the Pakistani people with various forms of relief support.
