Saudi Foreign Minister, Palestinian PM Discuss Gaza Developments

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan discussed with the Palestinian Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammad Mustafa, the developments in the Gaza Strip and its surroundings on Saturday. On a phone call, the two ministers also discussed the efforts made to achieve a ceasefire and the need to increase the flow of humanitarian aid to all parts of the Strip.

Bin Farhan congratulated the Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa, on his appointment to form the Palestinian government, and appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs. He expressed his wishes of success for his state and the new Palestinian government in serving the Palestinian people in light of the difficult circumstances they face, according to SPA.

The Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas assigned, earlier this month, economic advisor Mohammad Mustafa to form the nineteenth government. Mustafa’s appointment followed the resignation of former Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh. Shtayyeh resigned less than 20 days ago, amid successive American calls to reform the Palestinian Authority.

Few days ago, Bin Farhan and his British counterpart David Cameron discussed developments in Gaza Strip on a phone call. Bin Farhan received the call from Cameron and they discussed the bilateral relations and regional and international issues. The two ministers confirmed earlier that it is important for the international community to bear their responsibilities.

These responsibilities include increasing efforts to achieve ceasefire and establishing safe corridors to deliver medical, humanitarian and food relief to Gaza. A comprehensive and just peace path will guarantee the Palestinian people their legitimate rights.

The UN Security Council passed resolution no.2728 on Monday calling for a ceasefire in Gaza during Ramadan. Fourteen countries voted in favor to none against while the United States of America abstained.
