Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the temporary precautionary measures issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), calling for increased aid access to the Gaza Strip.
The ICJ also called for an increase in land crossings to facilitate aid delivery. This call is to alleviate the crisis’s impact on civilians in that region.
The Ministry affirmed KSA’s support to increase urgent humanitarian aid and prevent further exacerbation of the crisis in Gaza.
The statement also reiterated Saudi Arabia’s call on the international community to take further immediate measures to halt Israeli violations of international law and humanitarian law and to implement the Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire.
Yesterday, judges at ICJ ordered Israel to ensure the entry of essential food supplies to the Palestinian territories. This order aims to halt the spread of famine.
Notably, the court reaffirmed its orders issued on January 26th following the lawsuit filed by South Africa against Israel, the occupying power, for committing genocide in the Gaza Strip.
These orders instructed Israel to take all necessary measures to prevent acts prohibited under the Genocide Convention. The orders also seek to take steps to ensure the immediate provision of urgent humanitarian needs to the Gaza Strip.
The court noted in its new orders that it has observed the deteriorating catastrophic living conditions in Gaza since January 26, 2024, amid widespread deprivation of food and other basic necessities. ICJ pointed out that famine has begun to emerge.
Moreover, the court ordered Israel to ensure its military refrains from violating Palestinians’ rights in Gaza. This directive was issued as Palestinians are recognized as a protected group under the Genocide Convention.
It is worth mentioning that Saudi Arabia stood with Palestine since the outbreak of the war with different means. On the political level, Saudi Arabia denounced Israel’s cruelty towards the Palestinian people.
KSA stood with Palestine, urging the international community to act decisively against Israeli brutality in Gaza. It also emphasized the need for an international agreement on the Palestinians that unifies all parties.
More importantly, KSA declared that it will not normalize relations with Israel until an independent Palestinian state is established. Furthermore, KSA affirmed the priority of securing a truce and maintaining the flow of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.
Besides, KSA emphasized the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and a safe living environment. This confirms Saudi Arabia’s enduring support for Palestinian statehood and its efforts to promote regional peace and stability.
On a humanitarian level, KSA did not save effort to lessen the great suffering that Palestinians are experiencing throughout this ordeal. King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has provided vital assistance to lessen the suffering of Palestinians impacted by conflict and humanitarian disasters via a variety of relief programmes and initiatives.
The planes carried different kinds of aid including food assistance, medical care, and building materials for shelter.
KSrelief’s initiatives demonstrate KSA’s unwavering commitment to supporting the Palestinian people. KSA upholds their rights to security, respect, and humanitarian assistance in times of need.
