Saudi Expands Green Areas in Al Qatif
Saudi Arabia has increased the green areas in Qatif by planting 9,215 thousand trees and afforest 16 sites in the governorate.
The secretariat indicated more than 3,600 male and female volunteers participated during the first phase from various sectors. In addition, the initiative will continue its work two days a week until the planting of 25,000 thousand trees is completed in various roads.
The Eastern Province Municipality stressed the importance of the initiative, which comes within its strategy to increase the green area in the governorate. Furthermore, these initiatives are considered in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
Green Areas in Saudi Arabia

However, the Kingdom has been making significant efforts to create and preserve green areas that do not only enhance the environment but also improve the quality of life for its residents.

Another important initiative is the establishment of botanical gardens and arboreta across Saudi Arabia. These botanical gardens serve as living repositories of the country’s plant diversity, providing a platform for research, education, and public engagement.
In addition to conservation efforts, Saudi Arabia is also investing in research and innovation to unlock the economic potential of its plant resources. The Saudi Plant Genome Project, for instance, aims to sequence the genomes of key plant species in the country.
