Saudi Energy Minister Attends Launch of Consortium Boosting Sustainable Concrete

Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman has attended the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to launch the NovusCrete consortium, Arab News reported.

The consortium represents a global collaboration to develop and accelerate the adoption of sustainable and durable saltwater concrete.

Led by the Kingdom’s Oil Sustainability Program, the consortium aims to place standards for using seawater in concrete. Furthermore, it boosts sustainability in construction, extend infrastructure lifespan, and decrease environmental impact.

Various Saudi entities are participating in the consortium such as the Public Investment Fund, Saudi Investment Recycling Company, NEOM through its Design and Construction Sector, Sika, as well as ClimateCrete.

These leading organizations stated that they seek to elevate sustainable technologies for concrete production, that concentrates on reducing the construction sector’s carbon footprint and fostering material efficiency.

Interestingly, the ceremony highlighted the presence of several prominent figures for instance Yasir Al-Rumayyan, governor of PIF; Saad Al-Qasabi, governor of the Saudi Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization; as well as Khalid Al-Salem, president of the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu.
