Saudi Armed Forces College to Become National Defense University

The Saudi Armed Forces Command and Staff College is currently unfolding a new chapter and undergoing a significant transformation, becoming the National Defense University, reported Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The transformation process consists of five stages, as follows:

  • Laying the foundation for the profound change within the college
  • Conducting a deep and accurate analysis of the college’s current position
  • Comparing the Saudi model with pioneering international models
  • Determining the university’s structure and programs
  • Preparing for its operational launch

The newly established university has a bold vision of becoming a regional institution by 2030, widely known for its legacy in preparing military and civilian soldiers in defense and national security. The authorities announced that the official launch is anticipated soon.

Established in 1958, the Saudi Armed Forces Command and Staff College has a long history of commitment to training Saudi army officers for command duties.

The college contains a command building, educational facilities, war exercise centers, a printing press, housing units, and dedicated student and staff services.

The institution offers various academic programs including master’s degrees in strategic studies and military sciences, a course in joint operations planning, and numerous diplomas in significant fields such as strategic leadership, national security, and international humanitarian law.

The new transformation plan comes in line with the Kingdom’s national security needs, enhancing its position at the forefront of defense education and development.

The National Defense University will include innovative and effective educational programs designed to elevate the efficiency of the Saudi defense sector.
