Riyadh, Headquarters for Arab Cybersecurity Ministers Council

The Arab League approved the basic system for the Council of Arab Cybersecurity Ministers during the 33rd Arab Summit held in the Bahraini capital, Manama, on May 16, reported Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

During the summit, Saudi Arabia showed a proposal to establish a ministerial council, a crucial step that was greatly welcomed by Arab leaders.

The basic system of the council highlighted that it would work under the umbrella of the Arab league, would have its permanent headquarter in Riyadh, and would include a general secretariat and an executive office in Riyadh.

The council’s responsibilities involve:

  • Determining general policies
  • Enhancing strategies and priorities aiming at fostering Arab cooperation in cybersecurity
  • Developing cybersecurity initiatives and programs
  • Addressing all cybersecurity issues at security, economic, developmental, and legislative levels

Saudi Arabia’s proposal was mainly driven by the growing cyber threats worldwide that endanger the region’s security and stability and hamper the development plans.

Saudi Minister of State, Member of the Cabinet, and Chairman of the Board of the National Cybersecurity Authority Dr. Musaed bin Mohammed Al-Aiban, expressed his deep appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their unwavering support to the cybersecurity sector.

The council was initially established after the Kingdom’s proposal to protect the Arab security. The proposal received unanimous support from all Arab leaders.

It primarily focuses on strengthening the cybersecurity cooperative relations and exchanging knowledge, expertise, technologies, and visions among Arab countries.
