Saudi Arabia’s KSrelief Funding Enables Educational Support for Over 800,000 Yemeni Children – UNICEF

More than 800,000 children in Yemen have received vital educational support, thanks to a $6.2 million allocation from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) of Saudi Arabia.

The funding, provided in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), aims to ensure access to quality education for vulnerable children in Yemen.

UNICEF highlighted the significance of KSrelief’s contribution in facilitating access to public and private education for boys and girls from marginalized groups.

The funding has benefited over 527,000 children who participated in the national final exams during the 2022-2023 academic year.

Additionally, 300,000 male and female students have received school bags and recreational supplies, which do not only motivate their return to school but also alleviate the financial burden on families.

Furthermore, the support from KSrelief has improved teaching and learning practices in classrooms.

A total of 7,520 male and female teachers across 17 governorates have undergone training, enhancing educational standards.

Hygiene supplies have been procured and distributed to 71,956 children and 120 schools.

The assistance provided by KSrelief has also enabled UNICEF to conduct five awareness campaigns, reaching nearly 4.9 million individuals, including caregivers.

These outreach activities have engaged approximately 26,000 community leaders, officials, and 2,500 families.

Peter Hawkins, UNICEF Representative to Yemen, emphasized the significance of partnerships such as KSrelief in addressing the educational needs of vulnerable children in Yemen.

“One in every four primary school-aged children in Yemen is currently out of school. Moreover, educational outcomes for those able to attend do not align with their age. Thanks to contributions from partners such as KSrelief, UNICEF continues to address the educational needs of vulnerable girls and boys in Yemen,” he stated.

KSrelief remains a steadfast partner of UNICEF, consistently providing funding for life-saving interventions that enable UNICEF to address the urgent needs of vulnerable children in Yemen.
