Saudi Arabia will host the 2026 UNCTAD Global Supply Chain Forum, bolstering the Kingdom’s status as a prestigious global logistics hub, reported Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has announced that the Kingdom has won the bid to host the forum and seized a valuable opportunity to strengthen the Kingdom’s position as a worldwide logistics destination connecting the three continents- Asia, Africa and Europe.
Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, Minister of Transport and Logistics Services and Chairman of the Authority, stated that this successful step mirrors the Kingdom’s prominent position on the global stage and its powerful impacts in international organizations.
Al-Jasser mentioned that hosting the forum highlights the tangible effects of Saudi Vision 2030, which pays great attention to elevating the transport and logistics sector. Furthermore, it stands as a testament to the remarkable efforts in the ports and supply chain sector. It also features the outstanding growth in operational capabilities and efficiency and the fruitful cooperation between Mawani and the private sector to extensively develop infrastructure and maritime services.
The statement has reviewed Mawani’s latest prominent achievements which included increasing the connection between the Kingdom’s ports and worldwide ports and the significant growth of strategic partnerships with pioneering international shipping lines.
Moreover, Saudi Arabia has added new navigation services linking the Kingdom to the continents and fostering trade and export projects with foreign markets. Currently the sector is on a fast track to successfully implement the ambitious goals of the national strategy for transportation and logistics services by achieving more logistics projects and initiatives.
Omar bin Talal Hariri, president of Mawani, stressed that such an accomplishment reflects the extraordinary efforts in developing logistics service standards. He indicated that hosting the forum in 2026 comes as a result of the Kingdom’s unwavering support to enhancing global trade, adopting innovative technologies in the maritime and logistics sector, and employing artificial intelligence in all services.
UNCTAD Global Supply Chain Forum
It is noteworthy that the UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the Government of Barbados has organized the first Global Supply Chain Forum in Barbados from 21 to 24 May 2024. It aims at tackling ongoing and future supply chain challenges, covering issues such as financing, sustainable and resilient transport and logistics, trade facilitation, transport connectivity, and digitalization.
Moreover, it sheds light on pressing issues such as food security, transport costs, climate change adaptation and mitigation, and helping developing countries to prepare for the energy transition in international transport.
