Saudi Arabia to Celebrate Flag Day Tomorrow, Honoring Sovereignty, Justice, Peace

Saudi Arabia will celebrate Flag Day tomorrow, March 11, commemorating the anniversary of King Abdulaziz’s approval of the national flag’s final design in 1937.
The occasion was officially established in 2023 through a royal decree issued by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. The day pays tribute to a flag that has represented the Saudi state since its founding in 1727.

The flag’s green background symbolizes growth and prosperity, while the Shahada reflects peace and the Islamic faith. The sword beneath it represents justice and security. The Saudi flag also holds a unique distinction—it is the only national flag in the world that is never flown at half-mast. This rule is protected under the Basic Law of Governance to preserve the sanctity of the declaration of faith displayed on the flag.
