On International Women’s Day, celebrated annually on March 8, UNESCO highlighted the importance of women’s leadership in artificial intelligence and spotlighted the work of the International Center for Artificial Intelligence Research and Ethics (ICAIRE). Based in Riyadh and operating under UNESCO’s auspices, ICAIRE is dedicated to promoting an inclusive global AI ecosystem and empowering women to take active roles in advanced technologies. The occasion also underscores ongoing efforts to ensure women have equal access to education and opportunities across all development sectors.
UNESCO Director-General Khaled El‑Enany emphasized the critical role of women in driving sustainable development, noting the importance of their participation in public life, access to economic resources, and engagement in cultural and scientific fields.
Supporting this vision, ICAIRE has introduced several initiatives, including the “Elevate” program. The initiative has attracted around 30,000 participants from more than 100 countries and offers advanced training designed to strengthen women’s skills in artificial intelligence. It also seeks to create a global network of female technology leaders while expanding women’s involvement in innovation and the responsible development of AI.
