Saudi Arabia has been re-elected to the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for the 2026–2028 term, securing 175 votes from 184 member states during the 42nd ICAO General Assembly in Montreal, Canada. The Kingdom has maintained its council membership continuously since 1986.

This renewed mandate underscores Saudi Arabia’s influential role in global civil aviation, reflecting its initiatives to enhance international standards and its leadership in shaping aviation policies worldwide.

The ICAO Council is composed of 36 member states, including major aviation powers such as the United States, France, Singapore, and the United Kingdom. Saudi Arabia’s re-election highlights its growing international standing and its continued role as a key voice in setting civil aviation strategies at both regional and global levels.

On this occasion, Minister of Transport and Logistic Services and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), Saleh Al-Jasser, emphasized the importance of the achievement. He noted that since the establishment of the Kingdom’s first airline in 1945, Saudi Arabia has remained committed to advancing the aviation sector through sustained efforts at both national and international levels.
