Saudi Arabia has been ramping up preparations for the upcoming Hajj season, 1445 AH, aiming at providing smooth and comfortable experiences to the pilgrims. Therefore, the Kingdom has embarked on a wide series of key projects to enhance the infrastructure and roadways for the visitors.
The projects included surveying and upgrading 4,000 kilometers of roadways and scraping and re-asphalting 158 km of roads. The developments also involved repairing cracks and potholes at 403 locations and clearing and trimming 2,361 km of road shoulders.
According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the authorities removed sand dunes covering 1,240 cubic meters and cleaning valley streams at 421 locations.
Saudi Arabia’s extensive road network is the first global road connectivity network, according to the World Bank. This network plays a central role in connecting the holy sites and ensuring safe and efficient pilgrim journeys.
Eng. Bader Al Dalami, Acting CEO of the General Authority for Roads, has recently conducted an inspection tour of over 2,000 km of these pathways to make sure of their readiness.
Al Dalami has checked key routes like the Riyadh-Taif highway, linking the capital with Taif, and the Taif Al-Sail Road, crucial for pilgrims’ travel during Hajj. Furthermore, he has inspected the Taif-Khurma-Rania-Bisha Road, which serves numerous areas in Mecca.
It is noteworthy that the first batches of pilgrims from several countries arrived in Saudi Arabia on Thursday. Saudi airports have welcomed pilgrims from India, Turkey, Thailand, and Bangladesh. The authorities have facilitated all entry procedures to help the pilgrims complete their spiritual journey and return back to their homelands with smooth and fulfilling Hajj experience.
