Taif in Full Bloom with “Taif Rose Hackathon”

Taif has launched today the first edition of the “Taif Rose Hackathon”, marking a meeting point for lovers of Taif roses, Saudi culture and tourism, reported Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The event, the first of its kind in the Kingdom, takes place at the Iridium Taif Hotel and lasts until May 7, 2024.

Organized by business incubators and accelerators, the “Hackathon” aims to enhance the innovation and entrepreneurship through focusing on cultural and geographical values and promoting the Taif rose sector.

The “Hackathon” showcases three tracks:

1-The Taif rose track designed to attract promising projects that contribute to strengthening the local rose industry and linking it with other sectors.

2-Cultural heritage track that aims to enrich the diverse heritage of Taif and preserve its identity represented by Taif roses.

3-Tourism experiences track which involves various projects to develop hospitality programs and provide exceptional tourist experiences in the City of Roses.

This occasion comes after The Taif Rose Festival (Qitaf 19) that began on Sunday at Al-Rudaf Park, with a flower and rose carpet covering 5,206 square meters. The festival showcased a variety of traditional performances, dances, water and light shows, vendor stalls, and a children’s zone.

Taif’s mountainous and famed rose farms have become a major fragrance production hub, producing over 550 million flowers annually. The authorities are actively engaged in providing crucial support services to local farmers, aimed at enhancing their productivity in rose farming.

“These roses represent our region’s heritage and competitive advantage,” said Majid Al-Khalif, Director General of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture’s branch in Makkah.
