Saudi Airlines is gearing up to launch a fleet of flying taxis to facilitate transportation for pilgrims during the Hajj and Umrah seasons.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, these cutting-edge Lilium aircraft, known as eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing), will transport pilgrims from King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah to hotels in Makkah.
Approximately 100 of these eVTOL aircraft will be deployed, revolutionizing travel for pilgrims in the upcoming season.
With a capacity to carry between four to six passengers, these flying taxis promise a convenient and efficient service.
Abdullah Al-Shahrani, Director of Corporate Communications and Spokesman of the Saudia Group, emphasized that the introduction of flying taxis offers an eco-friendly alternative to traditional modes of transportation.

These aircraft boast low carbon emission rates, marking a significant step towards sustainability in the tourism sector and providing an exceptional travel experience for the guests of Allah.
In addition to their environmental benefits, the flying taxis will significantly reduce travel times as they are capable of covering a maximum distance of 250 km.
The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah granted a license for operating these Lilium aircraft on January 10, 2024, and the necessary regulatory approvals have been obtained to introduce them to the Saudi market.
Saudi Arabia’s partnership with Lilium to bring these aircraft demonstrates the nation’s commitment to investing in sustainable air mobility.
It exemplifies the country’s dedication to environmental protection, development, and the flourishing tourism sector.
Looking ahead, Saudi Arabia has ambitious plans to expand the use of these electric-powered aircraft in a broader network, connecting airports and all holy sites.
This visionary approach aims to ensure the most seamless and spiritually enriching journeys for visitors.
