The Saudi Ministry of Interior has launched the digital ID service for those coming to Saudi Arabia with a Hajj visa this year, as part of the government’s efforts to enable digital transformation and harness technology to serve humanity in accordance with the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
The Ministry explained that the digital ID of pilgrims enables pilgrims to prove their identity electronically through the Absher and Tawakkalna platforms. This will enhance the quality of services provided to them, and elevate their experience.
It was developed in cooperation with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Hajj and Umrah, and the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), reported Akhbaar24.
Moreover, the Ministry of Interior, represented by the General Directorate of Passports, introduced a special stamp for beneficiaries of the Makkah Route Initiative, containing the visual identity of the initiative.
The stamp will be available to beneficiaries at designated lounges at 11 airports in 7 countries benefiting from the initiative, namely Morocco, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Turkey, and Côte d’Ivoire.
Makkah Route Initiative
In 2017, the Saudi Ministry of Interior announced launching the Makkah Route Initiative as part of the Program for Serving pilgrims. It is one of the programs of Saudi Vision 2030 to provide high-quality services to pilgrims, by completing their procedures at their home countries easily and smoothly.
The Ministry of Interior continued to implement the Makkah Route Initiative in 2018, 2019, 2022 and 2023 to serve the beneficiaries of the initiative in their countries and facilitate their entry to the Kingdom. It cooperated with partner agencies to serve the pilgrims starting from leaving their countries and until they arrived at King Abdulaziz International Airport and Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport.
In the current year, 2024, the Saudi Ministry of Interior and its partners from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Information, the General Authority of Civil Aviation, the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, the Saudi Authority for Data and Artificial Intelligence, and the General Directorate of Passports, continue to implement Makkah Route Initiative and provide its services to pilgrims, including issuing Hajj visas, and coding their luggage electronically.
