Saudi Arabia Lists 70 New Archeological Sites in National Antiquities Register
The Saudi Heritage Commission added 70 new archeological sites in the National Antiquities Register, reported Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
This addition brings the total number of registered sites across Saudi Arabia to 8,917, a testament to the Kingdom’s deep-rooted heritage and rich history and culture.
The Heritage Commission explained the procedures required to register archeological sites. After a site’s discovery, a team of specialists examines it to assess its archeological value. After that, they write and publish scientific and technical reports about it.
The newly discovered archeological sites are widespread all around the Kingdom. Asir Region boasts the highest number, with 14 registered sites, followed by Al-Jouf Region with 13, and Hail Region with 12.
After that comes Jazan Region with 11 registered sites, then Al-Qassim Region with 7, Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah Region with 6, and Riyadh Region with 2, while the Eastern and Mekkah regions have one each.
The Commission’s work extends throughout the year in all Saudi regions to register new archeological sites.
It confirmed that the registration process complies with the Law of Antiquities, Museums, and Urban Heritage, and in accordance with the commission’s board of directors’ decision, which authorizes its CEO to approve the registration of archeological sites.
The Heritage Commission called on citizens to report archeological sites for registration via the Balagh (report) platform, and the commission’s official account on X platform, and through contacting its branches across the regions of the Kingdom.
The Commission said that it commends the public awareness about national heritage, and their role, as key partners, in preserving and developing Saudi heritage.
