Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Health Fahd bin Abdurrahman Al-Jalajel has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for health cooperation with his Cuban counterpart, Dr. Jose Angel Portal Miranda, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The MoU marked the success of Al-Jalajel’s working visit to Cuba which commenced on September 19 and concluded on September 21.
The Minister commenced his visit by a meeting with Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez in Havana on Thursday.
During the visit, Al-Jalajel held a bilateral meeting with Miranda in order to explore new avenues to boost health cooperation and exchange medical expertise between the Kingdom and Cuba.
Al-Jalajel was accompanied in this visit by a large high-level delegation, made up of representatives of the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties, the Saudi Food and Drug Authority, the SEHA Virtual Hospital and several ministerial executives.
The visit involved several talks with Cuban government officials and executives of the BioCubaPharma Group, to discuss the production of medicines, vaccines and medical devices in Cuba.
Moreover, Al-Jalajel visited several medical institutions, including the University of Medical Sciences of Havana, the Hermanos Ameijeiras Specialized Hospital, the Virtual Hospital, the Las Praderas International Health Care Center, and the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology.
Al-Jalajel expressed his sincere gratitude for the attention given to the health sector in Cuba and underscored the significance of supporting mutual interests to achieve sustainable development, prosperity, and well-being for both countries and their citizens.
