Saudi Health Ministry Launches Seasonal Flu Vaccine, Urges Public to Get It

The Saudi Ministry of Health have begun offering the seasonal influenza vaccine service in primary health care centers in all regions of the Kingdom, by booking through the Sihati application.

The Ministry explained that those most at risk from seasonal influenza include people with chronic diseases, those on immunosuppressive medications, individuals over 50, children aged 6 months to 5 years, pregnant women, the severely obese, and healthcare workers. It emphasized the flu vaccine’s safety and importance, especially for these groups, as it effectively reduces severe illness, ICU admissions, and related deaths.

The Ministry of Health stated that those most at risk of complications from seasonal influenza include people with chronic diseases, immunosuppressive medications, those aged 50 and older, young children, pregnant women, people with severe obesity, and healthcare workers. The ministry stressed that the flu vaccine is safe and crucial for these groups, as it effectively reduces the risks of severe illness, ICU admissions, and death.

The ministry stressed that flu prevention involves vaccination, handwashing, avoiding touching the face, using tissues when sneezing or coughing, and keeping the environment clean. The vaccine is key in reducing severe symptoms and protecting vulnerable family members.

The ministry emphasized that preventing seasonal flu relies on getting vaccinated, thoroughly washing hands, avoiding direct contact with the eyes and mouth, using tissues when sneezing or coughing, and maintaining a clean environment. The vaccine plays an important role in providing a high level of protection against severe symptoms and also helps protect family members who are more vulnerable to infection and complications.

Through continuous efforts, the Ministry of Health seeks to increase the number of those vaccinated, reduce the rate of infected people, and the number of people hospitalized due to seasonal influenza.
