Saudi Arabia emphasized its commitment to cultural collaboration and sustainable development at the G20 Culture Ministers’ Meeting. Deputy Minister of Culture Eng. Fahad Abdulrahman Alkanaan delivered the speech on behalf of Saudi Arabia in Salvador, Brazil.
The event, themed “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet,” underscored Saudi Arabia’s dedication to global cultural advancement. Deputy Minister Alkanaan praised Brazil’s leadership, acknowledging their commitment to the G20 cultural agenda.
A Legacy of Cultural Advocacy
Alkanaan highlighted Saudi Arabia’s role in launching the G20 Culture Track in 2020, which recognized culture’s economic impact. The first Culture Ministers’ Meeting during the Kingdom’s G20 presidency in 2020 marked a milestone.
Successive G20 presidencies, including Italy, Indonesia, India, and now Brazil, have built on this foundation. Together, they have expanded the cultural agenda, strengthening culture’s global influence and reach.
Saudi Arabia aligned with this year’s G20 goals to encourage social inclusion and sustainability. The Kingdom reiterated its commitment to promoting cultural diversity, leveraging digital technology, and advancing a creative economy.
Preserving Heritage and Advancing Cultural Restoration
The Kingdom also highlighted the importance of preserving heritage sites globally. Saudi Arabia’s initiatives include establishing a center dedicated to restoring underwater cultural heritage in the Red Sea and Arabian Gulf.
