The Kingdom is distinguished by its variety of tourist destinations and civilizational landmarks, unique in quality tourism, including medical, leisure, and shopping tourism, among other tourist purposes.

Enhancing Saudi Arabia’s Global Tourism Status

Saudi Arabia has bolstered its position as a global tourism destination with initiatives in archaeology, culture, education, and arts. Consequently, these efforts aim to preserve the Kingdom’s heritage and natural beauty.

Furthermore, major events like the Red Sea International Film Festival and the Saudi car race have showcased Saudi hospitality.

Saudi Arabia’s Global Ranking in Tourist Growth for 2023

In 2023, Saudi Arabia ranked second globally for tourist growth in the first seven months. Additionally, the Kingdom’s tourist growth rate was 58% compared to 2019, as reported by the World Tourism Organization’s “Barometer.”

Interview with Deputy Minister of Tourism

Deputy Minister Mahmoud Abdelhadi, in a CNN Economic interview, reported a 45% increase in 2023 visitors compared to 2019. Similarly, international visitors totaled about 16.5 million.

At the Future Investment Initiative in Riyadh, he noted a significant rise in domestic visitors, reaching 78.8 million.

Therefore, the combined expenditure of these groups surpassed $50 billion.

Growth in Recreational Tourism

Abdelhadi noted that recreational tourism has rapidly grown since 2019, making up a significant portion of Kingdom visits, with a 119% increase. Importantly, leisure visits, he emphasized, are vital to Saudi tourism strategy, comprising nearly 38% of all visits.

Visa Regulation Amendments, Electronic Visa Launch

Saudi Arabia revised tourist visa rules, easing procedures for Gulf residents and visa holders from the US, UK, and Schengen countries. Moreover, permanent residents in the EU, US, and UK can now obtain electronic visas, extending the visa’s reach to 57 countries.

Electronic visas, introduced in 2019, have drawn millions of visitors, creating jobs and boosting the economy.

Investment Initiatives in Tourism

Saudi Arabia has welcomed international investment in its tourism sector and participated in global tourism events like the Arabian Travel Market. Lastly, the Kingdom hosted the World Tourism Organization’s World Tourism Day 2023 in Riyadh.
