
The Royal Saudi Naval Forces (RSNF) has floated His Majesty King Saud, the first combat ship under the Tuwaiq Project, at a shipyard in the US state of Wisconsin. The Tuwaiq Project involves the construction of four multi-mission combat ships.
The flotation ceremony was attended by the Chief of Naval Staff, Lieutenant General Mohammed Al-Ghuraibi, along with a number of senior officers and officials from Saudi Arabia and the United States. Representatives from Lockheed Martin, a global leader in defense and military industries, and Fincantieri, a company specializing in advanced naval and military vessel construction, were also present.

On this occasion, Lieutenant General Al-Ghuraibi expressed his pride in the ship’s flotation, emphasizing the strong support provided by the Kingdom’s wise leadership to the Armed Forces in general and the RSNF in particular. Additionally, he noted that this support has played a significant role in achieving major milestones in modernization and development.
He explained that the Tuwaiq Project is one of the RSNF’s most important strategic initiatives, reflecting the Kingdom’s commitment to building a modern, professional naval force based on the latest military technologies, supported by advanced training and qualification programs for its personnel.

Al-Ghuraibi added that the project will enhance the operational readiness of the RSNF to safeguard the Kingdom’s strategic interests and secure critical maritime routes. He also highlighted that the project’s ships are equipped with state-of-the-art combat systems, enabling them to conduct a wide range of naval warfare missions and engage aerial, surface, and subsurface targets.
