Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a sharp condemnation on Tuesday after Israel approved nineteen new illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank. The ministry declared this move a blatant violation of international law and UN resolutions that explicitly forbid such expansion. Consequently, the Kingdom warned that these actions sabotage prospects for genuine peace and stability across the region.
Settlements Defy International Law
The ministry stressed that Israel’s decision flouts UN Security Council Resolution 2334, which invalidates all settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem. Moreover, it violates foundational resolutions 446, 452, and 465, demanding an immediate halt to settlement construction in stolen lands.
Therefore, Saudi Arabia views these approvals as deliberate provocations undermining global legal frameworks and diplomatic efforts.
Urgent Global Action Required
The ministry urged the international community to assume concrete responsibility and enforce accountability against these persistent violations of Palestinian rights. Furthermore, it reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s unwavering commitment to Palestinian self-determination and dignity despite escalating occupation tactics.
The Kingdom continues championing an independent Palestinian state on 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, aligning with the Arab Peace Initiative and UN resolutions, with Saudi officials insisting that true regional security requires ending illegal settlements and honoring Palestinian sovereignty without further delay.
