The Royal Commission for AlUla has announced the opening of the exhibition “AlUla: Oasis of Wonders in the Arabian Peninsula” in its second edition, set to be held in Beijing, China.
The exhibition will run from January 5, 2024, to March 24, 2024, showcasing the history and cultural heritage of AlUla.
Exhibition Venue, Contents
The exhibition will be held at the Palace Museum in the “Forbidden City,” a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Beijing. It will feature several pavilions, artifacts, and heritage items from historical sites in AlUla, as well as various programs and initiatives aligned with the AlUla Vision and Saudi Vision 2030.
Prince Badr’s Commentary
Prince Badr bin Abdullah, Minister of Culture and Governor of the Royal Commission for AlUla, commented on the exhibition. Firstly, he highlighted its role in strengthening cultural ties between the two nations.
Secondly, he stressed the importance of the exhibition’s second edition in showcasing AlUla’s heritage globally. Consequently, this edition aims to give visitors an immersive historical experience of AlUla.
Exhibition Highlights
The exhibition, building on its 2019 Paris success, will feature a variety of archaeological treasures. These include unique statues, pottery, inscriptions, and documentary films.
Moreover, it will also present the “Journey Through Time” plan’s innovative design, alongside historical sites like Dadan, Al-Hijr, Qurh, and the Old Town.
Unique Aspects of Each Site
Each site at the exhibition offers a glimpse into AlUla’s diverse history. Key attractions include Dadan statues from the Dadan and Lihyan Kingdoms. Furthermore, films will depict the Al-Hijr’s mountain-carved tombs, a prominent city in the Nabatean Kingdom and Saudi Arabia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Recent Developments in Tourism
Saudi Arabia recently received the designation of an approved destination by China in September, facilitating travel standards for Chinese visitors and laying a strong foundation for more visitors to explore AlUla, one of the most exciting destinations in the world.
