Riyadh Hosts Tripartite Meeting: Saudi Arabia, China, and Iran Strengthen Ties

The Saudi-Chinese-Iranian Joint Tripartite Committee held its second meeting in Riyadh on Tuesday. The session reviewed progress on the Beijing Agreement. Saudi Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Waleed A. Elkhereiji chaired the meeting. China’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Deng Li and Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Majid Takht Ravanchi led their respective delegations.

The Saudi and Iranian representatives affirmed their commitment to fully implementing the Beijing Agreement. They emphasized respect for neighborly relations and adherence to international law. This includes respecting sovereignty, independence, and the security of states.

China’s Role and Regional Progress

The Kingdom and Iran acknowledged China’s pivotal role in supporting the agreement. Both countries praised China’s continued follow-up and encouragement to deepen Saudi-Iranian ties across various fields.

The three nations welcomed the progress in Saudi-Iranian relations. They highlighted the significance of direct communication and mutual visits between senior officials. These interactions are essential for reducing regional tensions and ensuring stability.

Religious and Diplomatic Achievements

Officials lauded improvements in consular services that facilitated religious pilgrimages. Over 87,000 Iranians performed Hajj, while 52,000 completed Umrah in 2024.

They also celebrated the first meeting of the Saudi-Iranian Media Committee. This included the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Saudi and Iranian diplomatic studies institutes.

The Kingdom and Iran expressed readiness to sign a Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement. The three nations emphasized expanding economic and political cooperation to strengthen their partnership.

Calls for Regional Peace

The three countries condemned Israeli aggression against Palestine and Lebanon. They urged an immediate end to attacks and violations of sovereignty. They stressed the importance of uninterrupted humanitarian aid to affected regions.

The officials warned that ongoing violence poses a grave threat to regional and global security.

The three nations reiterated their support for a comprehensive political solution in Yemen. They emphasized the importance of adhering to internationally recognized principles under United Nations auspices.

This meeting demonstrated the commitment of Saudi Arabia, China, and Iran to fostering regional peace and cooperation.
