Vision 2030: A Catalyst for Change
Politico pointed out that these developments are a tangible result of the Kingdom’s successes under Vision 2030, adopted by King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Achievements in Clean Energy
Politico also displayed Saudi Arabia’s significant strides in clean energy including collaboration with South Korea on hydrogen production projects. They’ve also partnered with French company Engie to develop green hydrogen projects. The Kingdom launched the first hydrogen-powered truck aims to create a carbon emission-free environment.
Furthermore, Saudi Arabia has installed over 750,000 solar panels across five solar stations along the Red Sea coast. They are also facilitating the transfer of renewable electricity and clean hydrogen through a Saudi-American partnership involving cables, pipelines, and railways.
Promoting the Green Initiative at COP28
At the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), Saudi Arabia promoted its green initiative. The Kingdom has expressed concerns about the lifecycle of greenhouse gases emissions from wind, solar, and other renewable energy sources. They emphasize the need for carbon removal to address climate pollution from wind turbines and solar panels.
Launched in 2021, SGI embodies a holistic approach to environmental protection, energy transition, and overall sustainability, showcasing a commitment that extends beyond national borders.
Moreover, the SGI pavilion at COP 28 is a testament to the Kingdom’s dedication to addressing climate change through tangible actions.
