Additionally, winter weather systems sometimes reach eastern and central Arabia and the Persian Gulf, bringing some winter precipitation as far south as Mecca. Furthermore, torrential rain is typical in March and April.

Moreover, winters, from December to February, are cool with possible frost and snow in the southern highlands.

Lastly, summers, from June to August, are extremely hot, with temperatures often exceeding 100°F. The coastal areas experience high humidity, whereas the interior regions remain dry.

Historical Weather Patterns

Historically, Saudi Arabia has a desert climate, except in the southwestern part, which is semi-arid. Summers in the central region are hot and dry, with temperatures ranging from 27°C to 43°C inland and slightly cooler in coastal areas.

Winter temperatures in interior parts range from 8°C to 20°C, with higher temperatures recorded along the Red Sea coast. The average annual rainfall in most parts of the country is below 150 mm, except in the southwestern part, where it ranges between 400 – 600 mm annually.
