A medical team at King Saud University Medical City, Riyadh, has successfully removed a cancerous tumor from the lung of a 70-year-old patient through a surgical robot, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
This success marks a remarkable medical breakthrough as this type of operations is considered one of the most delicate and rare operations in the Kingdom.
Led by Dr. Suha Kaaki, a thoracic surgery consultant and assistant professor at the Faculty of Medicine, explained that once the patient was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in the lung, a specialized medical team was immediately formed to address the tumor.
After an accurate review of the patient’s condition, the team decided to perform a “robotic segmentectomy of the lung,” through the use of a surgical robot to make small incisions no larger than 1 centimeter.
Kaaki assured that the tumor was completely removed, and the patient left the hospital two days after his recovery in good health.
King Saud University Medical City has gained a great significance due to conducting some of the most advanced and complex surgeries with internationally trained consultants and cutting-edge technologies.
