Industry Assistant Minister Explores Innovation, Advanced Manufacturing in Korea

Assistant Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources for Planning and Development Dr. Abdullah Al-Ahmari conducted a series of meetings with senior government officials and private-sector leaders during a visit to the Republic of Korea. The discussions centered on enhancing industrial cooperation and identifying joint opportunities in advanced manufacturing, maritime industries, innovation, industrial research, and human-capital development.

Dr. Al-Ahmari met with Vice Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Moon Shin-hak to discuss collaboration in advanced manufacturing and semiconductors. The meeting highlighted areas of knowledge exchange and technology transfer in key sectors such as automotive and shipbuilding. Both sides also discussed initiatives for human-capital development, including joint programs to build workforce skills in Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies.

Collaboration with KAIST

During his visit to the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Dr. Al-Ahmari explored prospects for collaboration in industrial innovation and future technologies. Additionally, discussions focused on KAIST’s Education 4.0 model and opportunities in computing, industrial systems engineering, and semiconductor systems engineering.

Dr. Al-Ahmari toured the Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in Ulsan, where he reviewed the applications of artificial intelligence in ship manufacturing. He met with Chief Operating Officer Minsu Cho to discuss potential areas of knowledge exchange and technology transfer in the maritime sector to support the Kingdom’s industrial goals.

The visit also included stops at major innovation hubs such as LG Sciencepark and the Samsung Innovation Museum. Dr. Al-Ahmari met with company executives to explore research and technological innovation initiatives designed to drive the development of future industries.

Saudi Vision 2030

This visit aligns with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to strengthen the industrial sector’s contribution to economic diversification. Finally, the discussions and collaborations aim to deepen international partnerships, facilitate advanced technology transfer, develop national talent, and attract high-quality industrial investments to the Kingdom.
