Imam Turki Royal Reserve: Haven for Endangered Species

Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Reserve Development Authority is playing a pivotal role in preserving endangered species in Saudi Arabia, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The Reserve’s Development Authority has successfully brought back the elements of wildlife to the northeastern region of Saudi Arabia, through resettling and breeding animals, birds and reptiles.

Over the past four years, Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Reserve has preserved animals, resettled endangered species such as the Arabian Oryx, the Reem Deer, and the Red Neck Ostrich, and increased their populations.

The Reserve has released endangered species to enjoy their lives, restore their role in their environment, and reproduce on their own. As a result of these efforts, the vegetation cover within the Reserve significantly increased and the inhabitant animals, birds and reptiles thrived.

This is central to the ecosystem balance and sustainability. Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Reserve now has a diverse variety of trees, plants, and seasonal grasses. The biodiversity and vegetation cover serve the objectives of Vision 2030 and the Saudi Green Initiative, which aim to improve the quality of life and protect future generations.

Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Reserve Development Authority covers a vast area of 91,500 square kilometers. It is a natural reserve that boasts a unique biodiversity. The Reserve features more than 120 species of plants, and 60 species of animals. This rich biodiversity is a result of its varied topography, from towering mountains to deep valleys and wide plains. Hence, it provides diverse habitats for a wide range of species.
