As part of the Makkah Route Initiative, the first batch of Malaysian pilgrims departed today, April 29, from Kuala Lumpur International Airport, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
The pilgrims are set to arrive at Prince Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah.
Makkah Route Initiative
Importantly, the Makkah Route Initiative seeks to facilitate all travel procedures for pilgrims in their homeland. Such procedures involve issuing electronic visas, ensuring that pilgrims have a clean bill of health and completing passport procedures at the airport. It also includes coding and sorting the luggage based on the transportation and accommodation arrangements in the Kingdom.
Moreover, the initiative provides pilgrims with transportation to their residence units in Makkah and Madinah.
Interestingly, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Interior is currently carrying out the 7th edition of the initiative in collaboration with several entities, as follows:
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs
- Ministry of Health
- General Authority of Civil Aviation
- Ministry of Hajj and Umrah
- Ministry of Media
- Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority
- Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA)
- General Authority for Endowments
- Hajj and Umrah Services Program
- General Directorate of Passports
