General Administration of Education Launches AI Courses
Today, the General Administration of Education in the Al-Bahah region launched a set of specialized AI courses titled ‘Journey of Artificial Intelligence‘, reported Saudi Press Agency. The administration explained that the course programs, which include Minecraft, target students, their parents, male and female teachers, as well as male and female school principals.
Artificial Intelligence Competition
The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) hosted a significant global AI competition for youth. The World Artificial Intelligence Competition for Youth (WAICY) took place on December 2 and 3, 2023, in Thuwal, Jeddah.
Artificial Intelligence Youth Competition: Massive Participation
Over 18,000 students from around the world, including Saudi Arabia, participated. The competition, aligned with the 39 participating countries, showcased Saudi Arabia’s commitment to AI.
Vision 2030: Cultivating Tech Savvy Youth
This initiative also aligned with Saudi Vision 2030, aimed at nurturing a technologically advanced Saudi generation. Spearheaded by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the vision also seeks to position Saudi Arabia as a global tech hub.
Artificial Intelligence Youth Competition: Diverse Projects and International Reach
Students presented over 6,000 projects, discussed both remotely and in-person. The Saudi representation includes 158 students from seven schools, indicating the country’s significant investment in AI education.
Comprehensive Competition Categories
The competition featured three categories: AI Showcase, AI Generated Art, and AI LLM. These categories underscored the comprehensive nature of AI education and its application in real-world scenarios.
Artificial Intelligence Youth Competition: Human Capital Development
SDAIA’s focus extends to human capital development, aiming to equip youth with necessary AI skills and knowledge. This also aligns with the objectives of empowering Saudi youth and making the Kingdom a global tech center.
Promoting STEM Education
The competition encouraged student participation in STEM fields, emphasizing the importance of AI in various aspects of life and real-world problem-solving.
A Synergistic Approach
The hybrid competition format allowed students to present projects online with explanatory videos, followed by selected live presentations. This approach also reflected the evolving nature of education and technology integration.
