Artificial Intelligence to create 69 Mln Jobs

The President of the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), Abdullah bin Sharaf Alghamdi, highlighted the significant impact of artificial intelligence (AI) in the labor market, reported the Saudi Press Agency. AI is set to create an impressive 69 million jobs over the next five years, according to a recent report by the World Economic Forum.

AI in Today’s Workforce

During the first global labour market conference, Alghamdi emphasized AI’s role in enhancing current human jobs rather than replacing them. This aligns with a study by the International Labour Organization.

Job Market Evolution

Alghamdi stressed that the evolving labor market, leaning towards AI, should be viewed as an opportunity rather than a threat. Proper implementation of AI, governed by relevant policies, can significantly enhance human capabilities and offer innovative solutions.

New Job Titles Emerging

The job market has seen the emergence of new roles such as AI Engineer, AI Writer, Input Engineer, and Content Experts. This dynamic shift leads to strategic challenges,. The challenges include a shortage of employees skilled enough for these new roles and therefore greater competition in the market for this small number of skilled emplyees.

Addressing Talent Shortage

Statistics indicate that about 77% of companies worldwide struggle to find the required talent, a significant increase from 38% in 2015. Addressing this issue strategically is crucial to avoid labor market risks and bridge the gap between job seekers and available opportunities.

Proactive Steps by Saudi Leadership

In response to these challenges, a royal decree established SDAIA in 2019 to lead AI and big data agendas in Saudi Arabia. This aims to build specialized capabilities and offer sustainable solutions for the labor market.

National AI Strategy

The national AI strategy launched in 2020 aims to transform crises into opportunities and leverage the AI revolution. This strategy includes training 20,000 specialists and researchers in AI and data science. Moreover, it includes raising awareness among 40% of the workforce.

Phases of SDAIA’s Strategy

SDAIA’s strategy consists of three main phases: Inspiration, Capacity Building and Empowerment, and Sustaining Solutions. These phases aim to foster interest in AI, empower specialists, and provide sustainable, expert-driven solutions.
