GCC, Arab League Meetings Stress Support for Regional De-Escalation Efforts

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the Arab League separately reaffirmed support for regional de-escalation efforts, in light of the recently signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the US and Iran.

Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan on Monday attended the GCC Ministerial Consultative Meeting, held on the sidelines of the resumed 165th ordinary session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level in Amman, Jordan.

During the meeting, the ministers reviewed the latest regional and international developments, welcoming the US-Iran MoU, according to the Saudi Foreign Ministry.

In light of this, the ministers reiterated their support for mediation and de-escalation efforts aimed at advancing diplomatic solutions and ensuring regional stability.

Arab Consultations 

Furthermore, Prince Faisal participated in the Consultative Meeting of Arab Foreign Ministers, held at the invitation of Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi.

The meeting discussed key regional issues, most notably the developments in the Palestinian territories and Lebanon, emphasizing the importance of unifying efforts to maintain regional peace and security and prevent further security implications.

Later, the Saudi Foreign Minister joined the resumed 165th ordinary session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, during which the ministers reviewed progress in joint Arab action and ways to bolster the Arab League system to meet the aspirations of member states.

The ministers also welcomed the US-Iran MoU, stressing the need for reducing tensions and creating the right conditions for a comprehensive agreement to strengthen regional security and stability.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Arab League Council announced the appointment of Nabil Fahmy as the new Secretary-General of the Arab League, under a mandate from Arab leaders, to take effect on July 1.
