GASTAT to Host UN World Data Forum in 2026

Saudi Arabia has secured the prestigious role of hosting the United Nations World Data Forum in 2026. The Saudi General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) won the bid after a competitive process. The decision came from the High-Level Group for Partnership, Coordination, and Capacity-Building for Statistics for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (HLG-PCCB).

Strong Presentation by GASTAT

The decision followed a majority vote after a thorough review of proposals from competing nations. GASTAT President Dr. Fahad Al-Dossari presented Saudi Arabia’s bid, showcasing the authority’s significant advancements in statistical work. His presentation underscored the Kingdom’s extensive experience in hosting international events and its logistical support capabilities.

A Forward-Thinking Theme

As part of the proposal, GASTAT introduced the theme: “Using the Latest Technologies and Methodologies to Enhance Global Statistical Systems and Enable Sustainable Development.” This theme reflects the Kingdom’s dedication to leveraging technology in enhancing statistical frameworks.

Commitment to Global Standards

Dr. Al-Dossari stated, “Hosting this event reflects Saudi Arabia’s prominent status among nations. It underscores the commitment of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to support the statistical sector.” He emphasized the vital role that statistical data plays in driving sustainable development across various fields.

Progress in Statistical Advancement

Al-Dossari noted that winning the bid highlights GASTAT’s significant progress in the statistical domain. He remarked, “Our recent expansions in statistical work enable us to produce accurate and updated data.” This progression stems from initiatives and projects aimed at refining data management and governance.

The forum will target 193 UN member states. It aims to promote high-quality statistical data and invite participants from international organizations, UN member states’ statistical offices, and data scientist groups.
