The Minister of Transport and Logistic Services, Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser has inaugurated the Future Aviation Forum 2024, held at King Abdulaziz International Conference Center in Riyadh, reported Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The three-day forum, held from May 20 to 22, will bring together 30 ministers and over 5,000 leaders and experts in the global civil aviation industry from 120 countries.
Organized by the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), the event will highlight the participation of 77 heads of civil aviation authorities, airline and airport presidents, CEOs of aircraft manufacturing companies, and worldwide prominent investors.
Themed “Enhancing the Level of Global Connectivity”, the third edition of the forum presents a valuable opportunity for global aviation leaders to unlock new avenues aiming at enhancing the aviation industry sector.
Historical Deal between Saudi Airlines and Airbus
The first day of the forum was featured by a historic announcement highlighting one of the largest aircraft purchase deals in the world.
Saudi Airlines company revealed that it had purchased 105 aircraft from Airbus [A320neo and A321neo] to expand the Saudi aviation fleet and enhance its air connectivity program.
The A320 Family is the world’s most popular single aisle aircraft having won over 18,000 orders from over 300 customers in all markets. The A321neo is the largest member of Airbus’ A320neo Family, offering unparalleled performance.
During his opening speech, Al-Jasser underscored the Kingdom’s unprecedented success to attract investment opportunities in the aviation industry field.
Al-Jasser reviewed the Kingdom’s accomplishments in the aviation sector during the last two years.
They included:
- Ranking 13th globally in air connectivity according to the International Air Connectivity Index.
- Achieving a record number of 111 million passengers in 2023.
- Announcing the economic policy for the civil aviation sector.
- Adopting new economic regulations for airports and air transport services.
- Unveiling the establishment of Riyadh Airlines, which is anticipated to begin its regular flights next year, linking Riyadh with more than 100 global destinations.
- Launching the basic plan of King Salman International Airport in Riyadh to accommodate 100 million passengers by 2030.
Within the next two days, the participants will delve into various discussions, including airports and air connectivity, supply chain management and flexibility, shipping and logistics services, digital transformation, and sustainability.
