Saudi Arabia’s National Centre for Waste Management announced the beginning of the third phase of “Estbdal” (Replacement) to replace old air conditioners with new ones.
According to Gulf News, the initiative aims to foster energy efficiency in the Kingdom in collaboration with the Saudi Centre for Energy Efficiency.
Set to run until December 2025, the current phase has set a bold goal to replace 250,000 old AC units and transform them into recyclable materials.
That means that the phase will collect all AC units that do not meet the recognized environmental standards.
This phase comes after the unprecedented success of the previous two phases as they recycled 88,000 window ACs.
Currently, the officials seek to expand the implementation of the initiative across the Kingdom in collaboration with the private sector.
Saudi Arabia’s air conditioner market is anticipated to surge in value from the current SR2.3 billion to SR3.1 billion by 2029, according to a recent media report.
Crucially, these projections depend on several factors including climate conditions, fast-paced urban expansion and major projects in the Kingdom.
