Egypt Says: Establishing Palestinian State in Saudi Arabia is ‘Irresponsible’
Egypt’s Foreign Ministry has denounced Israel’s suggestion of establishing a Palestinian state in Saudi Arabia, Reuters reported.
In an official statement, Egypt described the suggestion as “irresponsible” and a “direct infringement of Saudi sovereignty.”
Consequently, the Egyptian authorities stressed that the Kingdom’s security was a “red line for Egypt”.
The statement seems to be a response to the idea of the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Palestinians should establish a state in Saudi Arabia.
Netanyahu seemed to be joking when he responded to an interviewer on pro-Netanyahu Channel 14 who has committed a mistake by saying “Saudi state” instead of “Palestinian state” before correcting himself.
At that time, the Israeli PM corrected the interviewer and said: “A Palestinian state.”
“Unless you want the Palestinian state to be in Saudi Arabia, they have a lot of territory,” Netanyahu added while smiling.
The interview comes after the US President Donald Trump’s proposal to resettle the Palestinians so that the US can control the Gaza Strip.
Moreover, Trump noted that he would create a “Riviera of the Middle East” after resettling Palestinians in other countries, including Egypt and Jordan.
Meanwhile, Arab nations strictly condemned such proposals and insist to see a two-state solution with a separate Palestinian homeland alongside Israel.
Crucially, the US President has recently mentioned that the Kingdom is not considering a Palestinian state as a condition for normalizing ties with Israel. However, Saudi Arabia refused such remarks and stressed that it would never establish ties with Israel without the creation of a Palestinian state.
