Coffee Aroma, Masenqo Beats Revive Ethiopian Culture in Riyadh

The “Global Harmony 2” initiative has taken visitors on a captivating journey through the Ethiopian culture with a diverse range of cultural and entertainment activities.

Organized by the Saudi Media Ministry, in collaboration with the General Entertainment Authority (GEA) and under the Quality of Life Program, the initiative highlighted Ethiopia’s culture at Al-Suwaidi Park, one of Riyadh Season’s zones.

During the event, thousands of citizens and residents of various nationalities enjoyed folklore songs and traditional melodies that highlight the depth and diversity of the Ethiopian culture, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The activities included musical performances by prominent singers, featuring drums, brass, and traditional string instruments, including the “Masenqo” – a cultural symbol in Ethiopia.

Furthermore, the cultural event showcased a wide range of Ethiopia‘s authentic traditions, including hospitality, holiday ceremonies, and traditional clothing.

The event also introduced a variety of Ethiopian products, such as coffee. Visitors learnt about the stages of preparing Ethiopian coffee, from beans roasting to grinding, brewing and serving the aromatic beverage during social gatherings, reflecting the warmth and authenticity of the Ethiopian culture.

Moreover, the Ethiopian Culture Days event featured a diverse array of cultural activities that enrich the visitor’s experience and introduce various aspects of Ethiopia’s culture.

Aimed at promoting understanding and exchange among communities by highlighting the lives of expatriates in Saudi Arabia, the “Global Harmony 2” initiative has attracted over 2 million visitors.

During the initiative, Al-Suwaidi Park showcases 14 global cultures, including India, the Philippines, Indonesia, Egypt, Pakistan, Yemen, Sudan, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Bangladesh, Uganda, and Ethiopia.
