Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah will travel to Saudi Arabia this week, according to Saudi sports media.
The Egypt international has been left on the bench for Liverpool for a fourth consecutive match, most recently against Brighton in the 16th round of the Premier League.
Saudi sports channels said Salah would arrive in Jeddah this week, without providing further details of the visit.
Liverpool’s match against Brighton at Anfield is expected to be Salah’s final appearance for the club before he joins the Egypt squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Salah is also expected to feature in Egypt’s friendly against Nigeria next Tuesday at Cairo International Stadium as part of the team’s preparations for the tournament.
Egypt have been drawn in a group with South Africa, Angola and Zimbabwe.
Earlier, a source told Agence France-Presse that Saudi clubs were closely monitoring Salah’s situation and believed a deal could be possible either on loan or via a permanent transfer, although no direct negotiations with Liverpool were currently under way.
The source said interest was not limited to clubs owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, adding that Al-Qadisiyah, owned by energy company Aramco, were also interested.
However, Saudi sources told Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper that clubs in the kingdom had never discussed the possibility of negotiating with Salah.
They said reports in the international media were no more than promotional efforts by the player’s agent and people close to him.
According to the sources, Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr, Al-Ittihad and Al-Ahli, as well as Al-Qadisiyah and NEOM, had not contacted Salah, Liverpool or the player’s representatives, and had no plans to do so.
Salah has recently been an unused substitute against West Ham United, Sunderland and Leeds United, and missed the match against Inter following comments he made last week that sparked controversy.
