What is the Saudi ‘Citizen’s Account’ Program?

The Citizen’s Account represents one of the most significant national programs in Saudi Arabia.

The scheme aims basically to protect Saudi households from expected direct and indirect impacts of the various economic reforms.

Accordingly, the beneficiaries can receive direct cash transfer through a unified electronic portal.

What are the Objectives of the Program?

The Ministry of Labor and Social Development revealed that the main aim behind such a promising initiative lies in the fact that low- and middle-income families need some help to cope with the changes caused by coming economic reforms.

Therefore, the Ministry decided to reorient government benefits to a deserving population segment.

In other words, the government intended fundamentally to improve the efficiency of government spending and accurately target deserving citizens.

That was not the only urge to launch the program; as the financial support also compensates for the increase in prices due to the correction in electricity and gasoline prices, and the application of VAT on food and beverage commodities.

Who is eligible for the Program?

The Ministry explained that the categories eligible for the program are the following beneficiaries:

  • Saudi families
  • Families of mobility card holders
  • Family of Saudi women married to non-Saudis
  • Wives of Saudi citizens
  • Independent individuals – a non-married male or female
  • Widowers and widows
  • Divorcees
  • Those who live in a separate residence as head of the family with no dependents to support
