The plan is a roadmap aligned with global standards. It covers various aspects, including environmental, economic, social, tourism, and cultural elements within the 24,500-square-kilometer reserve. The area boasts 15 distinct ecosystems, ranging from mountain ridges to coral reefs, located in the northwest of the Kingdom.

The plan sets forth guidelines for the efficient and effective management of the reserve. It emphasizes the restoration and conservation of wildlife in accordance with the latest global standards. This includes species reintroduction initiatives guided by modern technologies and a framework for developing and enhancing the ecotourism ecosystem.

Heritage and Tourism Aspirations

The reserve is home to four sites listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List for the Kingdom. It aims to become the world’s most renowned heritage tourism destination focused on environmental conservation while balancing the needs of local communities.

Research and Restoration Efforts

The plan follows the completion of extensive studies to assess the historical and current state of the Reserve’s environment. These studies outline the necessary steps to restore the ecosystems, flora, and fauna to their state from a century ago. The reserve aspires to become a premier tourism destination, offering visitors diverse terrestrial and marine experiences while ensuring the protection of its ecosystems and biodiversity.
