The astronomical expert, Mulhem Muhammad Al-Hindi, denied the claims circulating on social media regarding the appearance of a very bright comet in the eastern sky at dawn today, Friday, October 11th. These claims suggested that this comet had visited Earth 80,000 years ago.
Al-Hindi refuted the truth of those claims, pointing out that early Friday morning, the third stage of a space rocket passed by while its engines were running, causing widespread dust to reflect sunlight over Saudi Arabia and the Gulf countries. Moreover, this led some people to mistakenly connect the false news with the appearance of the space rocket, thinking it was the comet in question.
Al-Hindi explained that “accurate information indicates that comet (C/2023 A3) is the brightest comet currently visible in the western sky after sunset. However, it cannot be seen with the naked eye due to its faint brightness and its appearance near the horizon, close to the sun’s twilight, which makes it difficult to observe. It can only be detected using appropriate tools such as telescopes or professional cameras capable of capturing faint objects.
