TUI Cruises Says Mein Schiff Vessels Safely Pass Strait of Hormuz

TUI Cruises announced on Sunday that its vessels Mein Schiff 4 and Mein Schiff 5 have successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz, according to Reuters.

The company said it had secured the necessary approvals from the relevant authorities, following careful consideration of the prevailing security conditions due to the war.

War in Iran

On February 28, the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran, targeting its leadership and triggering a new conflict in the Middle East.

Iran has been responding with a retaliatory counterattack in Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi as a retaliatory move, while launching barrages of missiles and drones toward Israel.

The conflict has spread across the Middle East, leaving thousands dead, triggering unprecedented disruptions to energy supplies especially after the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

TUI Cruises said the vessels would now make their way swiftly toward the Mediterranean Sea.

The cruise operator also confirmed that all passengers had been safely returned home while both ships were currently sailing with reduced crews. It did not provide any further details.
